What is Forest School?
Forest School is a child-centred learning approach which allows children the freedom to explore the world around them. It is a long-term initiative that encourages children to take risks, lead, communicate, be independent and to become resilient young learners.
“The best classroom and the richest classroom is roofed only by the sky” Margaret McMillan.
This is the first year that we are beginning Forest School at Riddings Infant and Nursery School. We are developing our Forest School area and now have a fenced off area on the school grounds where the sessions will take place. We are adding to our area frequently and have begun making a sign for our fence.
In Autumn term Reception participated in Forest School sessions on Mondays. They collected lots of different minibeasts, worked in teams, built some dens, made potions and lots lots more.
Take a look at all of the wonderful photos we have taken.
In Spring term it is Year 1's turn to have forest school sessions which they have been participating in every Wednesday afternoon. Year 1 have built dens, had lots of free choice and even helped mend a Little People's Village that had been knocked down. We are learning team work, caring for others, finding a voice and being careful outdoors.
