At Ridddings Infant and Nursery School we use the Jigsaw mindfulness scheme to teach PSHE. This is a whole school approach with all year groups working on the same theme (Puzzle) at the same time. These lessons bring together PSHE (Personal, Social, Health Education), emotional literacy and social skills.
Through the scheme we teach Mindfulness, this is an awareness of our thoughts and feelings as they happen and helps us focus our minds on what we choose to focus it on.
Children who have been taught this approach can more readily choose how to respond to situations rather than just react, helping them make good behaviour choices, concentrate on their work and lessen stress and anxiety.
Our vision for teaching PSHE in school is to empower the children with the tools they need to cope with the world around them and the many challenges that arise, by developing their mindfulness skills and their ability to cope and thrive.
More information about the Jigsaw and what we teach can be found in the overview document below.
